FAQ - Multifan (Motor - general)

Frequently asked questions

Does Vostermans have a 1 HP/0,75 KW belt drive motor in the program? »»

Yes, there is a 1 HP/0,75 KW and a 1,5HP/1,1 KW motor belt drive fan available.

Is the Multifan motor explosion proof? »»

No, to be awarded with the terms explosion proof means that the motor/fan can not create an explosion caused by sparks or high temperatures. The construction and material have to meet very, high standards (f.e. ATEX). Multifan/Mf-Flex motors are not designed for this usage.

What voltages are available? »»

Vostermans Ventilation delivers fans and motors all over the world. Consequently a very wide range of voltages is available in 1- and 3-phase versions.

Why is the Multifan motor different? »»

To fulfill the customer demands on quality, flexibility, controllability and durability Vostermans Ventilation has chosen for qualitative materials and present production methods. One way to express the durability of the motors is the 3 year warranty on the motor, which already exists for many years.

Why does Vostermans Ventilation produce permanent split motors? »»

The reasons are the ease of construction, high reliability and the low maintenance (no block brushes).

Motor type: How do you describe the Vostermans Ventilation motor? »»

The Vostermans designed and built motor is best described as a Alternating Current, Sealed severe duty, IP55 enclosure rating, wash down, Class F insulation, ball bearings (front & rear), motor. It is a TEAO (Totally Enclosed, Air Over) motor. This applies to either Multifan or Mf-Flex branded motors.
They are designed to be used in low pressure fan systems.

SPEED CONTROL: Do all Vostermans Ventilation motors have variable speed controllability? If so, how are they controlled? »»

Most are controllable. There are a few exceptions which are noted on the specification sheets. The single phase motors can be controlled by transformer, electronic or frequency controls, which are optional. The three phase motors are controllable by frequency or transformer controls.

SAFETY: What industrial approvals and certifications does Vostermans Ventilation have on the motors and fans? »»

  • Motors have UL 1004 recognition for safety for electric motors
  • Motors also have CSA C22.2 recognition for safety for electric motors
  • Motors are UL 507 recognized for outdoor application
  • CE (Europe) declarations (for 60 Hz versions) can be provided upon request.
  • Most fans are UL 507 listed and CSA C22.2 approved

MOTOR RATINGS: Why doesn’t Vostermans Ventilation show more information on the motor tag, such as horsepower, service factor, etc.? »»

Vostermans motors are single use, that is, they are designed to be used in fans, period. Every Multifan branded motor (the motor with the cast aluminum housing), has a motor tag on it that shows the important information for a fan: The tested air flow (cfm), current (amps), and the electric power consumption (watts) used to make the tested air flow. Horsepower does not tell a potential customer anything about the fan capability. Most, if not all, motor manufacturers in the U.S. build motors to be used in several applications other than fans. So, the information like horsepower, power factor, and service factor is usually shown on their motor tags so potential customers can readily compare.
